ADAPTERS FOR X-LINK X-Link adapters are only needed when a component doesn't have a free or open RCA jack. The X-Link is a single cable that connects to any open jack at both the source (such as a CD Player) and the destination (such as a Preamp). Typical positions where an X-Link may be placed: phono preamp to preamp, CD player to preamp, CD player to integrated amp, DAC to preamp, preamp to amplifier. Sometimes the digital-out jack on a CD player is "floated" from the main ground plane thus making the choice of an adapter preferred.
